HandiBrake (2024/2025)
Handbikes aid mobility for paraplegics but require effort, making braking hard and leaving riders vulnerable.
We developed a modular braking system for handbikes, allowing both riders and caregivers to control braking via a button interface or mobile app. A manual override ensures reliability, making mobility safer and more accessible.
mmWave Fall Monitor (2024)
Falls pose a serious risk for the elderly, but traditional detection methods using wearables or cameras can be intrusive, uncomfortable, or unreliable in low light.
We developed a high-resolution people-tracking and fall-monitoring system using the Texas Instruments IWR1843 radar SoC, designed for home use with a local computer for monitoring and alerts. While we found it less invasive than cameras, concerns about hardware cost and limited radar coverage raised challenges for productization, though we remain interested in future compact radar applications.
